What Did You Learn About Yourself When the World Got Quiet?
In 2020, during a global pandemic, I wrote something in Got Harmony?: Quick Guide to Living Your Best Life! that feels worth revisiting:
“This practice of sitting with yourself is the beginning of any kind of change and growth.”
— Lenise “Harmony” Halley, Got Harmony?: Quick Guide to Living Your Best Life!
For many of us, 2020 forced us to sit with ourselves in ways we hadn’t planned for.
The schedules stopped.
The commutes changed.
The restaurants closed.
The normal hustle and bustle of life came to a screeching halt.
And suddenly, there was a little more room to notice things.
Maybe we learned something about what we actually wanted.
Maybe we realized how exhausted we were.
Maybe we discovered what mattered.
Maybe we picked up something we’d put down years ago.
Maybe we confronted something we’d been avoiding.
Or maybe we simply learned that we really didn’t like being alone with our own thoughts. 😂
But then life started moving again.
The hustle returned.
The calendar filled up.
Work, responsibilities, errands, relationships, notifications, appointments…
And sometimes the things we learned about ourselves during that quiet season get buried underneath everything else.
So perhaps this isn’t about recreating 2020.
Maybe it’s simply time to check in.
Not with the version of you who existed in 2020.
Not with who you think you’re supposed to be.
But with the person you see in the mirror today.
One of the practices I wrote about in Got Harmony? is a mirror exercise—an invitation to actually slow down and look at yourself.
Not just your reflection.
You.
What does the person looking back at you need right now?
What have you been ignoring?
What have you outgrown?
What are you longing for?
What do you already know—but haven’t given yourself permission to acknowledge?
Sometimes growth doesn’t begin with a five-year plan.
Sometimes it begins with sitting with yourself long enough to listen.
💜 When was the last time you really checked in with yourself?
And what do you think the person in the mirror needs from you right now?
I’d genuinely love to hear your answer.
And if you’re at a point where you need some space to slow down, get curious, and make sense of what’s next, that’s exactly what I love helping people do through coaching.

📖 And if you’d like to go deeper, this reflection—and the mirror exercise—are both found in my first book, Got Harmony?: Quick Guide to Living Your Best Life!
The book that started it all. 💜
